In the world of electric shavers, only select brands can back up their claims with real-world performance.

And one of these shavers is the Braun Series 9 9090cc.

Braun Series 9 9090cc Review

This perhaps is the most advanced, fastest, and one of the most expensive electric razors out in the market right now.

Braun says this foil razor can mow down three-day beard growth.

And reviews like this confirm that this product works and I’ll share with you the features and technology behind it.

This shaver is only a dry shaver despite being waterproof; if you want the added wet shaving functionality, then opt for the 9095cc.

At the heart of the 9090cc is a middle trimmer that aligns and cuts facial hair growing in different directions and then cuts flat-lying hairs on the neck and chin area.

Two OptiFoil trimmers flank the middle trimmer and finish the job, leaving a smooth and irritation-free shave.

Here are the features the Series 9 9090cc:

Pros

Cons

What to expect from the Braun Series 9 9090cc?

Braun has to be on top of your list when it comes to foil shavers.

The Series 9 9090cc is no different.

Four blade shaver

This model is perhaps the only electric shaver in the world that features four synchronized cutting elements that work together to give you a tug-free shave even with a multiple-day growth.

First, let’s see Braun’s video to give you a bit of a teaser of how this technology works…

As I’ve said, the four cutting elements work side by side to lift up, align, and cut facial hair even on trouble spots.

The beauty of this technology is how it adjusts to the contours of your face. Not only does the head pivot, but even the cutting elements are also flexible, giving your face a close and comfortable shave.

Not as close as a safety razor

It will not cut as close as a safety razor, but it will be save you a lot of time.

Typically, you will need to spend at least 10 minutes to do a 2 pass shave using a safety razor. With an electric shaver, that number goes to around 3 minutes.

Here’s a demo on how it does on a 3-day beard growth…

According to the video review, compared to the 790cc (which I reviewed earlier), the 9090cc didn’t pull and tug on his 3-day beard growth.

If you timed how long he shaved, it was less than 4 minutes long compare that the time you need to wet shave. So that’s at least 10 minutes to prep, apply shaving cream, and a 3 pass shave. You can say that this really is a time-saving tool.

As entrepreneurs like to say, time is money.

All new cutting head

Series 9 Head

Braun boasts that this razor features a new SyncroSonic technology that has 40,000 cross-cutting actions per minute.

The best way I could explain it in layman is it gives you a comfortable shave with less tugging thanks to the 4 cutting elements.

If you look closely at the shaving head, the 9090cc has an extra cutting element called the direct cut and trimmer that aligns facial hair that’s all over the place and cuts it.

This razor would best fit men whose beard growth is multi-directional, meaning it grows in different directions. If your cheaper electric shaver gives you issues in terms of pulling and tugging, give this one a try.

Not a Wet and Dry Shaver

Specifically, the 9090cc does not have wet shaving functionality, even though it’s waterproof, you cannot use it to wet shave.

If you want something with a wet shaving option, then go with the 9095cc; it is also a series 9 Braun shaver but more expensive!

All new charging and cleaning base

To make life easier for you to focus on doing more important things, Braun also has redesigned the charging base to make charging and cleaning more straightforward than ever before.

According to Braun that the 9090cc’s cleaning station will charge, lubricate, disinfect and dry the razor at a touch of a button.

After using the razor, just place it back on the charging station. And it will automatically keep the batteries fully charged.

The alcohol-based system automatically selects the optimal cleaning mode for optimal fluid consumption.

There is a fan that will dry the razor after the cleaning cycle is finished.

Goatee and sideburn trimmer

Precision TrimmerThis razor also comes in with a pop-up trimmer that you can use to trim the sideburn and goatee area without having to buy a separate beard trimmer.

And you can use this for you… ehem… man-scaping needs should the need arise.

Travel buddy

You can also bring this razor along with you when you do business trips or family vacations.

It comes with a leather case. And even without charging, you can use it continuously for 50 minutes before the lithium-ion battery runs out.

You can also plug the cord direct onto the razor. So there’s no need to bring the bulky charging base when traveling.

It also comes with a cleaning brush that allows you to keep the head clean even without the cleaning station with you on the road.

Auto-voltage

You don’t need to worry about voltage because this razor is auto volt, meaning it will work on outlets between 100 and 240 volts.

You may need to buy an adaptor to fit this in different outlet configurations, though.

Consumer Reviews

Consumers, for the most part, liked how this product performed in terms of shaving off their facial hair. But some of them warned not to expect the closeness of a safety or a cartridge razor.

Not everyone thinks that this razor will cut close. This would depend on factors like hair density and skin type.

Again, your mileage may vary.

The best advice I could give you is trying out the razor and see how it shaves your facial hair. If you get a close shave, then it’s a keeper, if not return it for a refund.

The cleaning station is nice, but not everyone was happy with it. Some have complained that it did not clean as well as they’d hoped it would.

The cleaning solution for the cleaning station will cost money.

Another issue would be the cleaning solution that adds to the expense. It uses alcohol, so there is a risk of it evaporating if you leave it on the charging station.

The name of the game here is convenience; if you don’t want to manually clean an electric razor, this is a great time saver.

Expensive

The biggest complaint would be the price. At close to $300 (current price), the 9090cc is very expensive.

And you’d expect top of the line performance which it didn’t always bring to the table.

Some men have said that the cheaper 790cc was a better performer.

Where can I buy this?

You can buy Braun Series 9 9090cc on Amazon, but Amazon does not sell them directly. It is only available through 3rd party sellers, so this means it won’t be eligible for Prime’s two-day shipping.

A newer version is available and actually cheaper than the 9090cc sold by third-party sellers. And it is eligible for Prime’s two-day free shipping. Amazon also sells extended warranties of up to 4 years.

Take note that if you purchase through the link above, I will earn a commission, but at no additional cost to you, so it’s a win-win for both of us.

To Wrap It Up

If you’re always on the go and finding yourself short on time, this is one of the best compromises you can find in the market.

The 9090cc has 4 cutting elements that work together to give you as close a shave as possible. But despite being waterproof, you won’t be able to use this to wet shave. To get that feature, you can opt for the more expensive 9095cc.

Add to that the pop-up trimmer plus the clean and charge station makes this one of the most versatile and perhaps easiest to use products for shaving in the market right now.

If you can afford the high price tag, I definitely recommend that you try this out – just don’t expect as close a shave as a safety razor.
