When it comes to epilators, there are only a few brands ladies trust, and Braun is one of them.
This makes sense because if you’re buying a machine that’ll pull out hair, you better be sure to buy only the best.
The Silk-épil 9 9-579 is Braun’s latest (as of this writing) epilator with an epilation head that’s 40% wider than the previous variants like the Silk-épil 3, 5 and 7.
It comes with the Silk-épil micro grip tweezer technology that’ll remove really thin hair.
You’ll also get several attachments such as the massage rollers that help stimulate the skin and make epilation a more comfortable experience.
If you buy this in Amazon, you’ll also get the facial brush that’ll help exfoliate the skin. Is this epilator worth the price tag? We’ll find out in this review.

What to expect from the Braun Silk-épil 9 9-579?
The one big selling point for the Braun Silk-épil 9 9-579 would be how complete it is.
It comes with all the attachments you need to remove hair from your armpits, legs, bikini area, and everything in between.
Heck, it even comes with a trimming attachment that’s compact enough to trim pubic hair if that’s what you need.
Now, if you have the Silk Epil 7, then I would not recommend buying this variant because the upgrades aren’t that much because both will give similar results though the Epil 9 has a broader head.
The differences between the two are only attachments.
MicroGrip Tweezers
One of the most significant upgrades that the Braun Silk-Epil 9 has over the Epil 7 would be the tweezer design.
To be more specific, the width, this variant is wider (more on that below) than the previous option. But that does not mean this one has more tweezers.
Both the Epil 7 and 9 have 40 tweezers.
The most significant difference would be how those tweezers are arranged. In the Epil 7, Braun uses the older close-grip technology.
With the newer Epil 9, it has the micro grip tweezer technology that can remove the tiniest hair follicles up to 0.5mm.
Extra-wide head
Braun says that the Silk-épil 9 comes with an epilator head that’s around 40% wider than older variants.
This means better coverage with fewer passes, and it’ll save you time.
Pivoting head
This machine also comes with a pivoting head that helps it adapt to the different contours of your skin. T
You’ll also have the option of using the flathead tweezers if that is your preference.
Epilate Wet and Dry
Another great feature of this epilator would be the ability to use this wet or dry.
One way to numb the pain that this may cause would be using it inside the shower because water also acts as a lubricant. Hot water will open up pores, has a soothing sensation, softens hair follicles, and thus reduce pain in theory.
High-Frequency Massage system
To help numb the pain from epilating, it comes with a high-frequency massage system.
It will not massage per se, but more of vibrate as it plucks hair.
Two-speed settings
You’ll get two-speed settings from the Epil 9.
What setting you’ll use will depend on the area that needs epilating. Use setting 1 for more delicate or sensitive areas like underarms or pubic hair.
Setting 2 will work well on denser areas like the legs or arms. But if it’s your first time using this, I would suggest using setting 1 first to get skin acclimated to the plucking sensation that can be painful.
How much discomfort you experience would depend on your pain tolerance.
Warranty
Braun backs this up with a 1-year warranty.
Run time & battery
This epilator comes with a Li-Ion battery that will run for around 40 minutes. And it’ll take about 1 hour to recharge.
Epilator caps
Braun also comes with two plastic caps that you can clip over the epilator head. One cap has a wider opening with more of the tweezers shown for maximum skin contact.
So if you want faster results, use this cap. The second cap has a narrower opening with less of the tweezers exposed.
This would be an excellent option to use on the face or other sensitive areas like the underarms.
Shaver head and trimmer cap
Another strong point of this product would be the option to use it as a trimmer thanks to the shaver head and trimming cap. This is a great tool to have for trimming longer strands of hair in the pubic area.
You’ll save money because there’s no need to buy a separate trimmer.
What comes in the package?
One of the most significant downsides of this epilator is the price. At over $100, it’s a steep investment for tweezers with a motor. But you’ll get a lot more than that…
- Epilator
- Charging stand
- Massage cap
- Skin contact cap
- Shaver head (with trimmer cap)
- Braun facial brush (for exfoliating)
What do consumers say?
The Silk Epil 9 has gotten over 1,000 reviews so far and is one of the more popular epilators in Amazon right now despite the price. And most consumers say it will do its job at plucking hair. Depending on how fast your body hair grows, it’ll stay away for weeks on end.
But using this device will not be a pain-free experience. The comfort level will depend on your pain threshold. If it’s low, then you might not like this product. Reviews liken the pain of getting a tattoo minus the sore feeling afterward.
One way to minimize pain would be using it properly. Consumers offered different advice like apply as little pressure as possible and using the correct attachments in the right areas.
Also, you’ll need to go slowly, or the tweezers will clip the hair making it more painful than necessary. Lastly, go against the grain and let the tweezers do its job at removing hair at a more efficient rate.
First-time users should only use setting one even on non-sensitive areas to get acclimated with the plucking sensation.
Overall this product is an excellent option for those who don’t want to spend a ton of money for laser skin removal treatments or, to a lesser degree, wax treatments. Hair follicles won’t grow back as fast as in shaving but expect some level of pain when using this.
Where can I buy this?
You can buy this high-quality epilator from Amazon, and it’ll come with their 2-day free shipping if you join Prime. Take note that if you make a purchase through the link, I will earn a commission, but at no additional cost to you.
To wrap up
Braun possibly makes the best epilators in the market right now thanks to the high-quality tweezers that will remove even 0.5mm hair follicles. But using this device will not be a pain-free experience.
If it’s your first time using this, expect to experience some of it.
Whether or not you’ll like this device or not will depend on your pain tolerance. Between this and waxing, using the former will be much cheaper in the long run if you add up the cost of subsequent waxing procedures.
